Hydraulic Top & Side Link

Information

Our hydraulic top and tilt kits are expertly engineered to fit most tractor 3-point hitches. Each kit is tailored to the specific make and model of your tractor, ensuring the perfect match of cylinder size and category for optimal performance. Hydraulic top link and side link cylinders can significantly enhance the versatility and ease of operation for your tractor implements. Pictures provided above are sample photos of the product line. Product will vary according to the tractor specifications.

Hydraulic Cylinder Drift / Leak-Down

Hydraulic top and side links provide the convenience of making adjustments from the tractor seat, but they should not be expected to hold a position as precisely as a mechanical top or side link. W. R. Long hydraulic cylinders use high-quality positive-sealing piston seals designed to minimize internal hydraulic bypass. A properly functioning cylinder should have very little internal leakage, but hydraulic cylinders are not mechanical locking devices and some gradual movement over time is possible.

Cylinder drift or leak-down can generally come from two sources:

1. Internal Cylinder Leakage
Hydraulic oil can bypass the piston seal inside the cylinder. With a properly functioning W. R. Long cylinder, this leakage should be minimal. Excessive or rapid movement may indicate worn or damaged seals.

2. Rear Remote Leakage
The tractor's rear remote can also allow oil to pass internally while in the neutral position. The amount of leakage varies by tractor and valve and can contribute significantly to cylinder drift. If additional position holding is needed, a hydraulic check valve can be installed on the cylinder. This helps isolate the cylinder from leakage through the tractor's rear remote and can substantially reduce drift. We do not include a check valve as standard equipment because it is not necessary or desirable for every application. A check valve also prevents the cylinder from operating in float, which is a standard feature on many tractor rear remote valves.

Hydraulic check valves are available for purchase separately on our website.
